The iPhone 14 appears to be nearly identical to the iPhone13, but there are several notable improvements, including a larger and brighter main camera sensor, safety features such as Emergency SOS via satellite and Crash Detection, and a slightly more powerful version of Apple's A15 Bionic chipset.
1. MODELS OF THE IPHONE 14 AND THE IPHONE 13
This year, Apple has drastically altered its iPhone lineup by discontinuing the iPhone Mini. Instead, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus are available (opens in new tab). The Plus is very similar to the iPhone 14, with the only significant differences being the screen size and battery capacity.

The only iPhone 13 models still available on Apple's website are the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 and the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini. With Apple also discontinuing the iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone 13 mini joins the iPhone SE 2022 as the company's last remaining compact phone.

4. IPHONE 14 VS. IPHONE 13: DESIGN AND DISPLAY
The iPhone 14 appears to be very similar to the iPhone 13. Both are made of glass and aluminium, and they have a glossy back. Like the 13-inch model, the front glass of the 14-inch iPhone has a Ceramic Shield for increased toughness.
The iPhone 13 switched from vertically stacked lenses to diagonally arranged ones on the back. The iPhone 14 maintains this strategy. It retains the slightly smaller notch seen on the iPhone 13 rather than the Dynamic Island cutout seen on the iPhone 14 Pro models.
The iPhone 14 is available in five different colours: Midnight, Starlight, Blue, Purple, and (Product) Red. Pink, Blue, Midnight, Starlight, Green, and Red are among the iPhone 13 colours.

Apple has also removed the physical SIM tray from US iPhone 14 models, making the iPhone 14 an eSIM-only device. If you need a SIM card tray, the iPhone 13 may be a better option.
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 both have 6.1-inch OLED displays with HDR support, 800 nits of brightness, and 1,2000 nits of peak brightness when viewing HDR content. The only difference is that you can go bigger with the iPhone 14 Plus, which has 6.7 inches of screen real estate. This panel displays more content on the screen at once and provides a more immersive experience when watching videos.

5. IPHONE 14 VS IPHONE 13: PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY
Normally, a new iPhone means a new chipset, but for the first time in iPhone history, this is not the case with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Apple has retained the high-end A15 bionic that powered last year's iPhone lineup, though it is not the same silicone that was used in the iPhone 13. Instead, this is the same chip found in the iPhone 13 Pro, so Apple promises an 18% improvement when comparing the iPhone 14 to the iPhone 13.
Are you looking for new Apple silicon? Consider the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, both of which feature the 4-nanometer A16 Bionic processor.

The iPhone 14 has a video playback time of up to 20 hours, a streaming video time of 16 hours, and an audio time of 80 hours. The iPhone 13 is rated for 19 hours, 15 hours, and 75 hours of battery life, so you should see an improvement with the iPhone 14. That's great news because the iPhone 13 lasted nearly 10.5 hours on our battery test, outperforming the average smartphone.
The iPhone 14 Plus has a larger battery, increasing those figures to 26, 20, and 100 hours. That could put the iPhone 14 Plus on our list of best phone battery life, though we'll have to put it through our battery test to confirm.
6. IPHONE 14 VS IPHONE 13: CAMERAS
The cameras on the iPhone 14 are among the most significant upgrades. The new iPhone 14 models, like its predecessor, have a pair of rear 12MP cameras, one of which is a main camera and the other an ultrawide shooter. However, the main sensor on the iPhone 14 is much larger, with larger pixels (1.9 microns), a faster f/1.5 aperture, and sensor-shift image stabilisation.
All of this should result in better photos and videos with more detail and less noise. Night mode should be improved as well, with the exposure now being twice as fast. A Photonic Engine feature enhances low-light performance across all cameras.

The iPhone 14's front camera has also been updated. This new TrueDepth camera has a /1.9 aperture, which should help in low light situations. In comparison, the iPhone 13 has an f/2.2 aperture. Additionally, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus offer autofocus for the first time on a front-facing camera.
To improve the stabilisation of videos shot on the move with the iPhone 14 while in motion, Apple has unveiled a new Action mode. The first real-world Action mode video has been released, and it is quite impressive.
We'll have to wait and see if the iPhone 14 makes our list of the best camera phones, but the early camera specs look promising.

IPHONE 14 VS IPHONE 13: THE CONCLUSION
The iPhone 14 includes upgrades such as SOS Emergency satellite connectivity, Crash Detection, and low-light photography improvements. Despite these enhancements, the iPhone 13 retains many similarities. The A15 Bionic chip, the display (with the exception of the larger iPhone 14 Plus model), and the overall design are all part of this.
The iPhone 13 will also receive all of Apple's latest software features, including the customizable lockscreen display, with iOS 16.
Overall, the iPhone 14 does not appear to be a significant upgrade over the iPhone 13. However, if you own an iPhone 12 or an older model, or if you want to splurge on the new larger Plus model, the new phones may be of interest.
